Scored elk with Omega Pics!

scored on a nice 5x5 Bull in Co. unit 19 with Omega 405 gr aeotip PB and 95 gr ff 777.Shot at about 75 yards at last shooting light, ran out of meadow like a run away train.Found some blood but got to dark to track him,so returned in AM and took up the trail.Followed blood trail for app 100 yds and could find no more blood.Looked for 2 1/2 hours with no luck, then after a prayer searched in a different direction and found blood about 75 yards from last spot. The searh was on again 20 yards further and more blood,40 more yards and I looked up to find the bull broadside standing in the opened stareing at me!He looked like a horse with a tree on his head!I fired from 20 yards and he didn't even flinch! then after a few seconds he took a couple of steps and fell, but kept trying to get up,so I reloaded and put one in his shoulder at 15 yards! After a few moments he finally died. The 1st shot from the evening before was a bit to far back(opened sights,a big bull and no rest all combined for that error)the second shot was a double lung right behind the shoulder and the 3rd took out the heart through the shoulder.None of the shots exited, but I found the second shot just under the skin on the far side completely mushroomed with almost full weight retention. So the PB's didn't blow up! http://tinypic.com/5w8lk http://tinypic.com/5wb68

First off, congratulations on a fantastic looking elk. I am somewhat surprised that none of the rounds passed through but then I have never hunted elk with a muzzleloader.
What kind of expansion did you get out of those big powerbelts? This is real interesting because it is first hand information. The double lung I am sure would have been fatal, but that just shows you how tuff those critters are. Two rounds in him and still trying to get back up....
Congratulations again.. you will be eating some great elk in the coming months....

Congrat's dvd....nice looking animal! A year ago last week I took a nice 5x5 with my front stuffer also. About 80 yards slightly quartering towards me and it hit a bit high, but he dumped after two steps...Cayugad, I was using 348 gr aerotips and after passing through about 3 feet of elk the bullet lodged against the hide on the opposite side. A near perfect mushroom with nearly full retention. 110 gr of 777 2F.
Again...congrats on the bull!!!!
