Power Solvent

RE: Power Solvent
Ox Yoke products are good quality stuff. Be careful some of that stuff they try and sell you is nothing more then water, a little alcohol and murphy's oil soap (I swear). Look on the bottle and see if it removes leading , copper, or is a nitro solvent. You should be fine.
The best thing still out there for cleaning the rifle is a bucket with hot soapy water in my opinion. Soapy water will kill the nitrates in the black -powder the best of anything. Although after the water bath I do run some solvent patches and a bore brush through them just to make sure it is all nice and clean before some dry patches and finally an oil patch.
You can make your own solvent if you like. It is called MAP. That stands for 1/3 Murphy's Oils Soap, 1/3 Alcohol 91%, & 1/3 Peroxide (hydrogen). The only warning about using MAP is the Peroxide will really get into the pores of the metal in the barrel, so you must wipe the barrel clean with some dry patches and then oil the barrel with a quality oil afterward. If you fail to oil afterward you will find a fine layer of rust all up and down inside the barrel the next time you check it, and it does not take long for the rust to show up.
