bullet weight

RE: bullet weight
A 1:48 twist will shoot roundball, conical, or sabots in some cases. As for bullet weight, that can be determined by what you want to hunt or what you like to shoot.
The best advise I can give you is to try different bullets, conicals, and roundball and se what your rifle likes to shoot and with what charge.

RE: bullet weight
I have 2 ML with 1-48 one shoots anything that I put in it great the other likes maxie balls and saboted bullets up to 250 gr. ,RB and heavy saboted bullets just will not group and they are both TC highplains sporters. So go shoot some groups with several weights / styles and propellents black ,777,prodex ect

The caliber will dictate the range of weights available for it, and the game usually helps determines a particular weight selection.
Conicals for example, my .45cal x 1:48" barrels are tack drivers with TC .45cal 255grn maxi-hunters and 90grns Goex FFg, and more than enough for deer at normal ML ranges.
And for deer using .50, .54, and .58 cal's...round balls are plenty heavy enough and they all shoot very well in 1:48" bores
