Seems the development of the "modern" large bore hunting muzzle loader had a goal of improving on the basic "Hawkin" of mountain man days. It has surely done that! Now let's look at what can be had today.
Inline ignition, fast lock time, super steel, sabots or base sealed full caliber conicals and even optics where allowed.
Do we respect Mr Quigleys bucket shooting? He (and only the "top gun" buffalo hunters) were only shooting a .45-110 or possibly a .50-110 with hand cast conicals. So, 150gr of pyro and a saboted pistol bullet? Let us not do something just because tecnology lets us.
If Ya can hit the "bucket" with a full caliber conical and 100gr + a bit, of modern powder, Mr Quigley would be proud! You also will be capable, if Ya chose, of killing most anything Ya come acrost on this continent.
