Default Cayugad HOW DO YOU LIKE THE SST?

Cayugad how do you like the t/c shockwave or the sst by hornady?
I pick up a box of 300 grains in 50 cal, have not yet had a chance to shoot them.
I am going to try them in the 50 cal.and 54 thunderhawk how hard are they to load seem I have read they are a pain in the butt when it come to getting them down the barrel
From what I read reviews on the sst they seem to punch right threw bone and all ways have an exit hole on game, and the priced is reasonable.

The T/C Shockwaves are really accurate out of the Black Diamond. The are really performing well with 120 grains of Pyrodex RS. The groups are fantastic. You can load the second one, but it gets a little harder. These are a definate hunting load because the second shot is possible without swabbing.

The T/C Cheapshots are shooting real well too. Not as tight as the Shockwaves but by no means a disappointment. They also load real easy. Once they are in the muzzle system of the Black Diamond they can be pushed down real easy. Another possible hunting load. I need to work on the powder charge with these.

On the .45 caliber 300 grain Hornady XTP and SST's they shoot wonderful if you can ever get them down the barrel. I really do not think there is any way I would use them in the field unless I carried cleaning patches and dry patches. In fact at my range, I broke the small ball starter with the sabot attachment, trying to push a XTP down the barrel. I had to put the starter ball on it finally, and actually smack the starter real hard to get is going then pound with the range rod until it got into the barrel further, where I was able to then seat it. Pounding on the tip of the projectile is not the way to an accurate load. If the gun is CLEAN they load all right.

The 370 grain T/C Maxi Balls load fantastic and shoot fantastic. I was thinking they might make a quick back up shot in the field should it ever be needed. You can load these without even a short starter.

I still have not tried the Precision Bullet Silver Lightening yet. I was waiting until the new CVA came in then we were going to see how they shot in both rifles. I have not tried the powerbelts for the same reason. When the new rifle gets here (the 2nd of January so promised UPS[:@] finally) I am going to spend an afternoon in the yard trying out all the different loads, powders, rifles, and just have a heck of a good time........

I am also considering getting a .50 caliber 320 grain LEE R.E.A.L. conical mold and make up a bunch. If they shoot as well as the Maxi Balls, it would make a nice hunting load and some fun shooting in the backyard also. I was also thinking of getting a .452 diam bullet mold and make some of them too, and them put them in a harvester sabot and see how they shoot. If the inlines don't like them then I will shoot them out of the sidelocks....

CAYUGAD I am going to try the sst 300 grain 45 bullet in a 54 sabot and see how they shoot in my 54cal. thunderhawk, think I will go with MMP sabot.
I think the sst have what I am looking for (making a exit wound) the BC is excellent .I also read some were that the hornady have two different types of XPT one design to be a mag. bullet, first time I ever heard of it, if all fails then I will go back to the silver lighting in the thunderhawk

Your Right!! the box of 50 Hornady 300 grain XTPMAG are listed as a magnum what ever the difference is I have no idea. The Hornady .45 caliber 300 grain SST/ML I am guessing are made for muzzleloader? Make sense? I am using the black high pressure Harvester Sabots. They are made for a .452 diam projectile, so this should be a good set up. I will be interested in what you find out. I know what you mean about not wanting to shoot off the Silver Lightening all at one time. I forget what they costed now with shipping, but this is not something you would go and blow through paper for fun everyday. Could get a little expensive.

Yesterday my new CVA Staghorn came in and man does this thing shoot!! Right out of the box I guessed a load just to make sure everything was working. I was shooting 100 grains of Triple Se7en and .45 caliber Hornady 300 grain XTP's. This rifle loved them. It shot an excellent tight group with them.

Today I shot the .45 caliber 300 grain Precision Bullet Silver Lightening Poly Tips. They shot fantastic. Even with the iron sights they outshot me. When there was one out of place I could tell it was because of me pulling the shot.

I also shot some of the .45 Caliber Hornady 300 grain SST's out of the Staghorn and it shot them real good. Nice tight group. I think I am going to put a red dot on this one and use it during our normal muzzleloader season and the Black Diamond all the rest of the time.

The Black Diamond XR liked the precision bullet silver lightenings. The SST's were like the XTP's a little hard to load and you had to clean between shots or you would not have loaded again. With the way the Black Diamond shot the Silver LIghtenings, I do not think reloading would have ever been an issue with the rifle.
