quick question of all your opinions.

I recently sighted in my omega at 100 yards with two 50 grain pyrodex pellets, and a 240 grain bullet sabot combo. my groups are very good at 2 inches.

my question is, where do you think the same powder charge would land me at 100 yards with a 300 grain bullet?

slightly lower?

i realize that, and i should have posed my question differently.

as an experienced shooter, i should have asked for results that folks have had doing so, and not opinions.

probably lower.....but you can never be sure.....always test at teh range......my gun shot about 10 inches low when i switched from 175gr rd balls to 295gr powerbelts......big jump but i didnt think thered be THAT much of a diffrence.....and that was only 50 yards!!! test at the range......you can never be sure........it might come really close or your gun may hate the lighter ones and throw them all over the place and make it look like your shooting buckshot after you fire a couple......

I am guessing it will hit lower. Simple Physics would suggest such a thing. How much lower is the question. A lot will depend on the bullet design. If the 240 grain for instance is a T/C Cheapshot and the 300 grain is a Hornady .45 caliber SST then there might not be that great of difference. You will also need to shoot the rifle to see if they perhaps fly to one side or the other of where you want them to hit. A good example is I was shooting T/C Shockwaves out of the Black Diamond and getting excellent bullseye hits at 50 yards. When I took 370 grain T/C Maxi Balls at the same range with the same charge, I figured there would be a real difference in where they would hit. I was surprised when they hit only an inch lower and in a very tight group. You are just going to have to go to the range and enjoy yourself with another day of shooting.... should be a law against that.

you are right cayugad, i will just have to figure it out on my own.

i don't even know why i am worried about it since my gun prints such nice groups with the 240 grains.

i just know that many nice deer survived the season and want some more knockdown power with a 300 grain bullet.

J in GB, I was trying to find my info as I shoot the 240 and have tried the 300 XTP. I believe it was 2-3" low with 100 gr of Pyro(pellets). In my case it shot lower and my groups opened marginally as I recall, not sure why but in any regard I have stuck with the 240 for my deer medicine.

Best to shoot em and find out
