54 Caliber Hornady Great Plains
#1

I called Hornady last week, and they confirmed that I, and/or the titled bullet, was 'obsolete' and would no longer be manufactured
.
It was/is the only thing I have found that shoots lights out (rounds touching at 50 yards) out of my Lyman Trade Rifle.
Round balls and other bore sized conicals just don't come close, and my attempts with sabots and light for bore bullets are likewise less than satisfactory.
Any suggestions on a plan B?

You say other bore-sized conicals tried have not shot well. What have you tried?
Bull Shop?
No Excuses? They offer a "sizing pack" to let you see what likely fits best without committing to a whole box.
Maybe give the above a call, they may be able to recommend replacements.

I started with a maxi ball, then R.E.A.L.. I hunted with the R.E.A.L. one season, but both were at best 5" groups at 50 yards.
I have some cast minie from October Country, (I think they are from LEE mold?), that between being undersized, and generally poorly cast, give nothing like repeatable results.
I have some coming from Track of the Wolf, but no data beyond being told they will need to be paper patched.
I looked at the NO EXCUSES some time ago, but was afraid they would be too long for my 1:48 twist. Any experience with those 525 gr in that twist?
The Bullshop offerings look interesting, and I will do some more research in that direction.
Thanks for the info.
