Default White Thunder

White Thunder. I've finally pulled it out and am attempting to develop a load and pattern this dang thing.
I bought it some time ago and when I got it I had to make a gun Smith trip.
The barrel lug use to secure the barrel to the stock was corroded. I definitely wanted that fixed.
And it appeared to be barrel dropped as the muzzle was definitely out of round.
Thus I couldnt get the choke tubes in.
But she is all fixed.
loaded with shockley ffg @100 gr and 1 1/2 oz #4 copper plated lead.
I do have a turkey pro scope mounted and did attempt to bore sight.
I need to develop my Turkey zero.
After this first shot I may drop the powder charge down till I get close to my desired aim point and then powder up.
I also have #5 cp lead to try.
Now my initial loading, no way can I get my fiber wad past my choke so I needed to take that out.
So I ordered felt wads as with my research I found an old Grayes article to how he loaded.

All I need is a good 30 YD pattern.
I dont shoot birds much past that anyhow.
My 34 yr avg is 21 -22 of my pace from where I sat!
Closer to me is better!

Well shoot.
inserted my backstop but just plain ran out of gas.
I had minnows to get in my pond. And my bees where flying.
I needed to feed them.
I just ran out of zoom to get er dun.
It was the delay in cleaning after that I decided to wait as I won't let used black powder rifles and shotguns sit

I bedded the action on my White Thunder shotgun. The gun just came with the Xfull choke that I use on small game mostly squirrels out to 30 yds. I use 75gr of triple seven 2Fg. felt wad/ 1 1/4oz. magnum #6 shot in slotted plastic shot cup and shot card. If I miss it's me an not the gun for sure!
I have the .665 turkey choke, but haven't tried it yet. Turkey's are getting to be scarce here as well. Good luck with your shotgun they are great guns!

Thanks TT.
I have fibers wads and that was hard to load.
Just ordered wool/felt in quarter and eighth inch thickness.

That sounds like an interesting firearm there JW. I personally love #5 shot for turkey. I don't use black powder for them though. Just a little 870 20 gauge youth model. Its like carrying a BB gun. But boy does it thump the turkeys..

Bronko I've got the same as I set up the youth 870 topped with a Nikon turkey pro scope for my grandkids.
I found I liked that more than my heavy trusty 1187.
And last yr, well I've found it too easy so am going back to my blackpowder shotguns.
One is my great grandaddies fowler.
Bores to be a 16 ga.
I shot my 3rd turkey on my 40th exactly 30 yrs ago. Time to drag that back out.
And I have a Pedroselli 10 ga of which I never got a pattern to my liking of which I going to work on that too.
Then back in the closet from dear Ole dad is a Trapper percussion 12ga or 50 cal I never fired.
I hope to get to that.
I do need to upload pictures.
