well i have received two tags this year one a muzzleloader only deer tag in 6b oct 21st-28th plan on using cva v2 lr with a federal bor-lok 270 over 90 grs 209 have that all dialed in ready to go but my real struggle is my rifle bull elk tag in unit 5a nov 26th-dec 2nd it's a general tag which means i can use a rifle,handgun which i do carry my f.a.454 or i can use a muzzleloader which i really want to do so i'm going to split my time with both, so my question is what gun what load man i have so many choices i can't make up my mind on one of my whites with a big ole slug or my big boar .58 with a round ball or my cva? my thought is possibly my cva with the federal bor-lok 350 gr lead over 110 grs of bh 209 my shots would be limited with the muzzleloader to about 100 yards max in the wooded areas and my rifle 500-600 yards "30-378" with a 200 gr swift bonded. i have tried to figure out if the 350 gr is tough enough to do the job so i am asking and i'm sure i will receive some opinions so thanks in advance to all those who have knowledge and experience taking elk with an muzzleloader. thanks !!

Ron water jug tested that 350 solid lead bullet a while back and if memory serves, it performed VERY well. Great penetration and fantastic expansion. It was the copper one that kinda sucked wind. BUT, and I'm not sure about this, but my memory is trying to say that he had some accuracy issues with both. But that was HIS rifle. Your's may vary. If that 350 lead shoots accurately out of your rifle, I have total faith that it would do the job well as long as you put it where it belongs.

thanks my rifle is very accurate with both bullets both hit same center just a little elevation change on my scope!!

I could never get better than a 3" group out of those 350s for some reason. Also had to drop the charge way down to 70gr bh209.

Really strange I hear a lot of guys say they suck but so far for me the've been really accurate!

If you think about it a 3" group isn't that bad really I know we always try to get so accurate that we forget if you can hit a pie plate consistently at the yardage you shooting at that's really all you need !

Honestly, 70gr BH under a 350gr bullet is still a pretty dang deadly loading. May have a little rainbow to it but the end result would still be pretty dang hard impact. I made some 410gr connies a while back and loaded them on top of 110gr 2f swiss. Talk about a teeth rattler! Breaking shoulders on BOTH sides of the rifle is NOT a good result! But boy did those puppies put the slam on hogs!

Has anyone tried to put a wad under the bullet just to see what that does? or if it would even work for the way the bullet works.
