Rangerod sent these full bore 50 caliber 300g Harvester Sabre Tooth bullets. They were tested at 25 yard, pushed by 80 grain Blackhorn powder.

Looks like it peeled up where it was scored by the rifling. And it doesn't look like the rifling got deep at all into that bullet. Barely scored. Odd how it peeled from the back like that though. I'm guessing it was the pressure of the water whipping back on it.

Harvester's website calls the Saber Tooth "copper clad". As I understand it, Powerbelts use a bonded (barely) "copper wash" where the copper simply serves to separate lead from barrel, but is not really a jacket. This Harvester "Copper Clad" also seems to be a very thin copper layer serving a similar purpose. It seems to be very thin and light as evidenced by the negligible loss of weight. The "clad" terminology suggests it's not bonded like Powerbellt. It may be that the copper's design intent has only to do with interior and exterior ballistics, with little intended terminal ballistics purpose.

If that bullet is supposed to expand there is a good chance the carpet plugging the hollow is why it didn't expand. Carpet is not a good simulator of hair and hide. I would like to see a repeat test without the carpet.

that's close to the results I got at 100 yards with 80gr bh209 and the 300gr sabertooth. Mine was rounded quite a bit more but held its weight. The other light sabertooth bullets act like the light weight powerbelts and frag badly.
Its just thin electro plating to keep the leading out of the bore. Rifling on the bullet looks right considering how short and stubby the bullets are.

The 300g Deep Curl, XTP, Partition, Parker BE, and FPB all expanded with the carpet/plywood in place.
The 290g TEZ, and the 250g TEZ also expanded with the carpet in place, as did the 195g Barnes.
The Knight Bloodline, and the Lehigh controlled fracturing both worked with the carpet in place.
Art', and Ed' home cast bullets all expanded with the carpet in front of the water.
Other bullets that worked after passing through the carpet include the PT Gold, the QT, the 350g Federal Premium, the 200g Shockwave, the 250g monoflex, the 275g Parker BE, and the 240g XTP.
There are probably several more bullets that worked when shot through the carpet/plywood........can't remem.........
If a bullet failed, well then it failed.
