Ed' 359g 45 caliber FP--80g Blackhorn

The bullet now weighs 354.7g. Range was 25 yard. Here is a LINK to the test of this bullet' cousin with the hollow point.

After picking up all the debris; headed up the trail, up the hill, and home.

It looks like the solid point didn't penetrate any better than the HP?

I wonder what kind of fps you are getting with 80gr of BH209? I has to be 1400fps+ by my estimates. Thats pretty peppy for a soft lead bullet.

Muley, you're right but from the looks of those first two jugs, I don't think any deer if hit in the boiler room would be able to recover from the traumatic shock? Maybe that's why my grandsons does were DRT when they were hit with them HP's?? GRIN

170gr PRB will do that too. ;)

Ya think our ancestors knew the merits of using pure lead for their ML's?? GRIN

Yes, but did they have any other choice? They made the round balls using a campfire back then. Lead sure made that easier.

I have nothing against modern bullets and will be using one this year. However, heavy lead is always a good choice too.

very impressive looking test. I like the pure lead bullet and the way they hit and expand. All these years of hunting with them, and I have no complaints.
