just finished watching it online. A good movie but when you know the real history and time that it happened, its way off and laughable a good deal of the time.
Strips down naked, gets into his dead horse which he and the horse both went over a cliff to escape indians? Its more like a scene from the movie Ace Ventra when nature calls! I laughed hard during this part.
Nice scenery but due to it not being anywhere close to what the country looked like when this took place, there was no connection.
The bear he shoots, he shoots with the frizzen wide open.
The bear attack wasn't done that well either IMO.
Could have been made a lot better with more connection but you know how hollywood is LOL. It was a lot better than man in the wilderness.
Looks like Jeremiah Johnson, The Mountain Men and Centennial are still my top 3 choices.
The ending of the movie was even funnier.
No meeting with Bridger either! Again, thats another area they could have shown where he gave him a tongue lashing and forgave him, give the audience some darn feeling and connection!

You fellows want good entertainment and also learn a little history???
Try these:
Savage Kingdom: The True Story of Jamestown by Benjamin Woolley
The Journals of the Lewis & Clark Expedition...
Journal of a Trapper by Osborne Russell...
Finish them and I can give you more...

I thought it was an ok movie. but then I look to hollywood for entertainment not truth.
it was embellished , true life does not sell as well as fiction. but the gist of it was true . he was attacked and mauled by bear, left for dead , and survived. something most could not have done. he was tough.

Hollywood has always made changes to story lines for dramatic effect. The idea of revenge for a dead son is more compelling then just being left for dead. Him killing the be a instead of the other trappers also. Get it. Not sure I can remember seeing a movie that was true to life.
Hey Muley lighten up. Its just entertainment!!! The period and action was fun to watch. How many other movies can we watch on this time period??? Not many for sure.

I get it you guys want 100% accuracy. I like to watch the super hero movies. The movies don't follow the story lines originally written. Some times that pisses me off. Most of the time I just sit back with a bag of popcorn and if the movie is good let it draw me in and enjoy it. You fellows need to chill.
