I was having a pretty happy-face day until I read that. So sad to read about senior citizen financial struggles and my heart goes out to ya'.
I hope you don't reach the point where it becomes imminent closing on one of those Reverse Mortgages. But some of the Seniors have no other choice.
Keep the faith Pete and keep your head-up best-you-can.

Yeah, that modern peep bothers me a bit too. But not enough to worry about right now. If the gun shoots as well as I hope I may figure out a more traditional looking peep for it in the future.

I wouldn't want to take it along for a four hour creep through the woods. But for sitting on a stand the weight is not a problem. And that 1-1/8" barrel looks really cool.

That is a really sweet looking rifle indeed. My .58 shoots a PRB with 100 gr of Goex BP and it only has a 32" long 1" barrel. The recoil is very mild. A lot less than my .50 Hawken with 80 gr charge and 300 gr bullet.
That 1 1/8" bbl shouldn't be much at all.
I am surprised though that there was no dovetail cut in the bbl for a rear sight.
