I have an option to purchase a pre2004 model Remington 700 mls in great shape. I'm a little concerned because it uses 11 caps and the conversion seems to have some mixed ratings. I'm in the market for a new muzzle loader because I started hunting large fields this year and need something I can reach 200 yds+. Is this gun a viable option or should I continue my search? Any info would be great. Thanks!!!

The good 209 conversion has excellent reviews. It will allow you to shoot Blackhorn209 powder and makes it far cleaner to shoot. The best thing about a 700ML is the TONS of aftermarket stuff. Basically anything that fits a Rem 700 centerfire fits a 700ML such as stocks, triggers and scope bases.
Google Arrow Head Sporting Goods LLC and talk to Luke. He will set you up with the 209 bolt nose kit and he offers installation. You need the "smoker" version if you want to stick with the factory barrel. If he does not have the smoker version in stock, he knows who does.
Reaching out to over 200 yards is much easier with a 45cal barrel upgrade. Then you can shoot either sabots or 45cal bullets without sabots. Does over 2300fps with a 275gr bullet sound good enough? Well that's just the beginning of what a sabotless 45cal can do.

I would suggest that if you'd be getting a great deal, purchase it, then make the 209 conversion. With the conversion and like already stated, you can shoot BH209. You don't need a .45 replacement barrel, the .50 will do just fine. Changing the barrel is an option though. With BH209 and a 300gr bullet, you have more than enough bullet energy out to 300yds for whitetail. However, practice to your maximum hunting range and practice often. I'm in no way saying you can't make a 200+ shot, its just not as easy as some may think.

This is the info I'm looking for. The asking price is $200 is that reasonable. I've seen guns in excellent condition and this one is as close as I've seen to excellent. I bought a 300 win mag from the same guy last year and it was perfect. Thoughts??

I'm sure in a Black Powder forum this is a stupid question but I recently got into Muzzleloaders, I've rifle hunted my whole life. What are the benefits to Black horn powder? What would be my powder options if using no. 11 caps? And what effect would that have on my usage of the gun?
