Yes they did but they are rare as hen's teeth. I believe they had a 1 in 24 inch rate of twist. Do you know of one available?

No my son asked if they made them. I guess I will have to start looking.

If you can find a old MK85 with a threaded barrel in poor shape, you could make one with the barrel of your choice. Not many companies offer a 1-24 though. IIRC Wiseman makes a 450x458 1-24 and Brux can make pretty much any twist you want.

1-18, 1-20 and 1-22 are easy to find though.

I second what flounder said. They are like finding a needle in a haystack. The few I've seen come available over the years have been blued & in mediocre condition and way overpriced. They are out there though, just not many. What GM said might work also if you could find a donor gun.

Gm54-120, Do you know of anyone who has done this with an old mk 85? I have long desired a 45 caliber mk and have pretty much given up on finding one. I have quite a few mk 85s with the threaded barrels and would like to fit one with a 1" O.D. bull barrel .451 with either a 1 in 18 or 1 in 20 twist.
A couple of mine have the allen screw holding the barrel in place and then they were struck with a center punch to keep the screw from being removed. Do you just grind off a little metal with a dremel tool so you can take that screw out and then use some heat to unscrew the barrel.
Some of the other ones do not have the allen screw but I am 99 percent sure their barrel is screwed into the receiver as well. Do you just heat them up and unscrew it?
I'm just trying to gather information for now as this would be a winter project. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Art

No but i know someone that has put barrels on Mountaineers. He has used both Brux and Douglas barrels.

Its the same guy that built Chet's Omega. He does exceptional work from what i can tell.

I know who you mean. I think he is cutting them off and threading because I believe the Mountaneers have a one piece barrel/receiver to start with.

They do but if he can cut a DISC based action off and add a barrel, im guessing a MK with a threaded action would be easier.

Correct Bestill is cutting and threading but if you have an old MK (prior to GM) then it is really straight forward - unscrew the old barrel - cut the BP insert in the new barrel and even that does not need that tight of tolerances for a plunger action - then turn and cut the barrel threads.
