Default Lyman deerstalker

I have a opportunity to trade for a Lyman deerstalker. This thing looks amazing. Problem is that I know nothing about these guns. I am not sure on bullet choice or powders. Rifle is the .50 cal version. What would be a recommended load for whitetail?

Cecil Epp of Presion Bullets recommends their 300 Extreme Elite bullets with a load of 90 grains of fffg Goex in 1-48" twist flintlocks which a Lyman Deerstalker has.

I shoot a Lyman Traded rifle. It has the same twist but the barrel is a little longer. They are excellent shooters. 90 grains of 2f black powder (mine are flintlock) and a .490 patched roundball is an excellent load. It also shoots power belts very well and XTP's. I never shot it long distances though as in 100 yards. I only shoot 75 and under with my open sight flintlocks for the most part.

My brother in law shoots 80gr Pyrodex RS and factory Knight 260gr saboted bullets in his. His shoots excellent with those, and they work very well on deer also. (they are speer jacketed hollowpoints)

They are really nice guns, imo. Wish I had bought one back when they were cheap and available.

I shoot Pyrodex RX...mine is a percussion. Haven't tried power belts or xtp's. All else is the same. Great shooting rifle!
