As always, Dave sums it up well.

Only got to shoot one doe with Barnes MZ. 300 grainer with 2 mag 777 pellets. Shot her slightly spooked at 30 yds . Doe made it maybe 50 yards on a double lung with golf ball sized exit. I would definitely use them again.

I refuse to use anything but the 300grn MLExpanders in my Savage smokeless. I killed one 220# 130" 8ptr 2 yrs ago at 175yds via a "TX heartshot" with the Barnes & my Savage. It was the only shot I was going to get & he was after a doe & headed away from me. No other bullet would've given me the confidence to drive that big bodied buck lengthwise at that distance. At the shot he hit the dirt, got up & ran 30yds before piling up. I've been shooting Barnes for over 2 decades & rarely shoot anything else!

If you are shooting a magnum level muzzleloader then I'd recommend tou go with the 300s instead if the 250s. The ballistics are scantly different out to 250yds but the penetration & power difference is considerable! If you are shooting a smaller, less powerful gun like an old Wolverine or side lock gun then you might get the 250s & kep your shots under 150-175yds.

Good luck!
