I' ll presume you are using an in-line, 1:28 twist, .50 caliber, and hunting in the same state as I am-- and using 100 grains of Pyrodex RS or Triple 7. That is a lot of presuming.
In that case, there are three bullets that are worth a try-- and just stick with what your gun shoots the best:
prbullet.com 300 grain Dead Center (.44 ca / .50 cal sabot)
Buffalo SSB 325 grain sabot
Powerbelt 348 grain

I mentioned this on another topic, but anyway, I took a nice 5x5 elk a few weeks ago with a .50 cal and 100 gr 777 with the 348 Aerotip (Powerbelt). At a slight angle, the bullet passed through nearly 3 ft of elk and lodged on the opposite side against the hide and the bullet was a near perfect " mushroom" . Almost 100% retention. Prett cool to find the slug in perfect shape. It was only about 80 yards, but when I hit him he side stepped twice and tipped over.
