hi,
I was wondering whether I could use a rifle scope for a muzzleloader or whether it would be better to use one specific to muzzy's. I have a Leupold 6x scope that I'm not using at the moment but I would consider buying another for the muzzy if it was a better option.
I've just heard the shock of a muzzleloader can damage a centrefire scope. I can't see how it would but just thought I'd ask.
Cheers guys,
JP

The key is choosing a quality scope to start with paired with a quality set of rings and bases set up and mounted correctly.
Usually when we have people come to the forum with problems it's with cheap "trashco "scopes or quick site mounts being the culprits.
As a general rule of thumb my goto list for under $400 in optics is Leupold ,Nikon, Minox, Weaver and Ziess.
Look for a MIN of 3.5 eye relief. I like 4 better but I can live with 3.5 if the price is right and the glass is good.

The Leupold FXIII 6X42 is a fine scope: Several of my centerfire rifles wear it. A few years ago i hosted three German hunters for hog hunting. All three showed up with very expensive rifles wearing the Leupold FXIII scope with custom reticle.
The Leupold FXII 6X36 is also a good scope.

Cheers fellas, always full of good advice.
I reckon I will stick with the 6x for a start. Down the track I would like to chuck it on a rimfire for some bunny busting. At that stage I've been looking at the Nikon Omega, though I am a Leupold man through and through so I'd consider the UltimateSlam 3-9x40mm with illumated reticle too. Anyway that's all down the track.
Getting there with my setup too for anyone interested.
I now have a powder measure, nipple pick, ram rod end, TC sling with 2 quick shots attachments, bore patches, projectiles, gun (coming), super jag and powder (coming). Down to cleaning gear I think now.

Ive always felt that a good 4x or 6x scope is about the perfect MZ scope there is with a 4x being a good Eastern hardwoods scope and a 6x being a Western Long Range scope.
The Best Scope I have is a 6x Kahles ZF95. It sits on a Savage MLII. Talk about a sweet rig.

Just another question while on the topic. Can you get quick detachable mounts for a TC inline muzzleloader? Wouldn't mind having the option of open sights there as well as being able to take it off while travelling by car or plane.
Cheers,

I most have a good one but have a tasco scope pay 70.00 for it on one of my ML this scope has been on there for 6 years and has 800 round on it and its dead on every time I shoot it. one of the best I've used is the vortex scope.
