Default Breech plug

My son has a optima cva, how come the breech hole is so small its a pain to clean. Other type breech plugs have larger holes in them.

When I purchased my Optima I noticed the same thing. I then purchased a CVA BlackHorn breech plug from CVA. The flash channel is a little larger.

But if your shooting loose powder, or even pellets that original plug will work just fine. To clean it is let water run through it, and then hit the hole with an air compressor. And blow it dry.

If you watch the CVA video on youtube on how to clean your Optima http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvF0YzIamak.. CVA suggests Soaking the breech plug in the Barrel Blaster Parts Soaker for about a hour http://www.cva.com/CVA-Product-View.php?id=150 then use the inline combo Nipple pick to clean out the plug. Thats is if you use traditional powders.

Some of us that have been around a bit have taken this a step further with BH209 powders.

For Bh209 users what is really needed is a 3mm Drill Bit attached to a broom handle or suitable tool and a small welders tip for the smaller end. Only use trandition smokeless cleaning solvents for BH209.

Here is one I made in my shop the other day.
