Default Muzzleloader Hunting

I ran across this while researching maxi-balls. I thought you guys might like to read it. This is old school before modern guns and bullets. I like the old stuff. Even what I read.

very interesting numbers... but I note they were maxi ball. I figured they carried pretty good energy.

That's the only thing I don't agree with. At the velocity he posted. I'm getting 1150fpe at 100yds with a BC of .131.

I hope i'm right, because his numbers are low.

I like how is says 75 yards max shot when you start. I been shooting a flintlock for 20 years and 75 yards still is my max. I had a bull standing 114 yards and passed. I wonder how many people would have taken that shot.

Me too. I use 75 yds as my max.

I even did that with CF guns.

Once i killed a pronghorn at an estimated 600 yard. That is my longest shot ever. The goat next to it just kept grazing when the dead one fell; so far away it had no idea us white men were shooting at them i guess. It was so far, the boys wouldn't let me go out and gut it.

My muzzle loader max is 250 yard for 50 caliber, and 1/4 mile for 45 caliber.

If you can see farther than 75 yds in the timber I hunt. You have superman vision.

Ron, I remember you practicing last summer I think it was, and was very impressed with your abilities at those ranges. Do you hunt primarily with the 50 or 45 now?

This thread is about the complete opposite of what Ron does.

Lets not drift off topic.
