Default .50 TC firestorm questions

I just purchased a new TC firestorm .50 flinter, with it I also got cans of goex 2f/4f, pre-lubed .15 patches, .490 round balls, and some .350 maxi hunters. Headed to the range tomorrow and looking for some startin points on powder charges and distances I should shoot at. Also i have shot/loaded flinters in the past but first time owning one. Thanks in advance.

You'll likely get the best accuracy with the patched balls and 2F GOEX with loads somewhere in the 75 to 90 grain range tcal126.

The .015 prelubed patches are a good starting point if the patches have not deteriorated (depending on age). As you get familiar with the gun you should try other patch thicknesses. Regular pure cotton pillow tick from WalMart or JoAnn Fabrics, which is usually in the .018 range, lubed with olive oil, peanut oil, or vegetable oil is a pretty reliable "go to".

With the 350 grain MaxiHunters the sweet load will likely be somewhere in the 65 to 80 grain range.

The 4F GOEX is for the pan only, not the main charge.

I usually stay at 25 yards until I get a load shooting one-hole groups at that distance. Then I move out to 50 and 75 yards progressively.

The sights on that new gun may need adjustments. If you're not on target at 25 yards, move the target up to about 12 yards and get the sights adjusted to dead-on at that range.

Not necessarily Semi,

My .50 Firestorm likes the taste of LEE REALS better than it does the PRB and my Buddy's Firestorm shoots the .50 Maxiball better than the PRB.

I read a post a long time ago about the firestorm. I was contemplating whether I wanted one or not. And asked a Firestorm owner what he shot out of his rifle. I was surprised when he said Powerbelts and 240 grain XTPs. He had a flintlock also as he was from PA. But he deer hunted with that rifle.

Sorry guys. My verbage didn't clearly convey my intent. I wasn't suggesting that patched balls would give the best accuracy, but that for patched balls, loads in the 75 to 90 grain range would likely be best.
