I was on a spring bear hunt in ID back in '89 and I knew I heard a pack of wolves howling just at dark while waiting to be picked up. No way they were coyotes - I could tell the difference. The outfitter told me 'there were no wolves there". We were way up in the panhandle so I guess they came down from Canada.
Hearing them at close range makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
