Update:

I finally got to fire my new Remington Genesis and set the scope. The powder charge is 90 gr. of FFFg TeipleSeven with a 300 grain Remington JHP 45-70 Government bullet in a Harvester CR sabot. The group size is 2.01" at 100 yards.

I know some folks get better accuracy from their muzzleloading rifles, however I am quiet pleased with the accuracy of my load.

Just thought I would let you know how things are turning out with the Genesis.

Are you pulling my leg Gene Pool? A two-inch 100 yard group is excellent.

It looks like you've got yourself a goodun. How many shots in that group?

A 2 inch group out of a rifle is a very good day at the range for me. My Genesis is real accurate also. I have shot a lot of different bullets and powders out of it. The rifle is not fussy.

That is great accuracy. Just wondering though, how tight is that bullet going down. I don't believe havester makes a sabot for a .458" bullet. The black CR are for a .451" - .452". If it is too tight going in you could possibly be damaging the petals on fthe sabot.

Its pretty common to use a Harvester Black Crushrib with .458s unless you have a tight bore. That combo is very popular in Savages. The Rems are a tad smaller at .457 IIRC also.

Well who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I never knew that. But I do recall that my Genesis was snug with teh green CR sabots and .430" bullets. I don't think I could have gotten the .458 down the bore with a black CR.

They are too tight in my .500 bore but i can run a .458 through a cheap Lee .454 sizing die and the HBCR sabot fits very nicely. Loaded OD then comes out to about .5055

No, I am not pulling your leg. I have a Leupold 2-7 scope on the Genesis, and yes, the sabot is hard to get started down the barrel. My group was 3 shots as it was late evening and I was running out of light.

By the way, I am a benchrest shooter with custom high-powered rifles...6mmBR, 6mmPPC, 7mm SAUM, 280AI, etc. so I am knowlegable on that type of shooting. I also shot competitive muzzleloading with black powder and round ball back in the 70's and 80's.

That is exactly what the rep at Harvester told me.

I recalled how I used to load .577 and .579 round balls in a .580 bore bench rifle with .017 patches. So I figured the .457 Remington 45-70 bullets would do similarly.

It is tight loading but I wipe the bore pretty well between shots--not complely clean, but about 80% clean. It would be really hard to load on a fouled bore.
