Default Such Temptation

You ain't gonna believe what I saw at the gun shop last night.
Some guy brought in a couple guns to sell. One was a Pedersoli double rifle in .72 caliber (caplock).
By the time I left there was no deal struck with the shop so I don't know how much it will be priced at. It is really nifty looking but it weighs probably about 12 lb. or more.
Nice condition too. I didn't see any rust on it anywhere.
We were sort of kidding around about it and I said I don't even know how heavy a charge you would put in it. The owner laughed and said "I guess you just reach in the can and grab a handful and throw it down the bore." - in his PA dutch accent.

.710" RB = 539 gr (over an ounce) Goex recommended load is 70 gr of Fg (that's one F) for a MV a bit over 1200 FPS

I do believe that would be a mild load. Just for kicks I looked on Youtube and saw someone shoot one with a 250 charge. One word comes to mind...OUCH!

Bronko, you know if the price is right you're going to have to buy that thing just to play with a while. Then when you get tired of it you can sell it to me at a discount. Then when I get tired of playing with it I could put a CVA sticker on it and sell it to Jon at a premium.

Are you sure that is a rifled barrel or is it a smooth barrel? A .730 is a 12 gauge barrel and that is the way I would think of that rifle. So even a 100 grain charge is like shooting a 3-3/4 dram of powder. That is what I shoot in my Knight TK2000 with 95 grains of shot. And that kicks like a mule. If the barrel is rifled, I would never go over 100 grains of powder and any projectile in it. Just for safety sake. Some of those You Tube videos are speciality weapons and they shoot insane loads. That would be a fun rifle to own and shoot, but very impractical due to weight to ever hunt with.

It's a rifled barrel (1:86) , I had one in .72 cal but didn't like it so I got the same double barrel in 58 cal instead. I haven't shot it in a few years .

Yeah Dave they are definately rifled barrels. There are 2 sets of rear sights on it. And when I first looked at it I thought they were for different ranges. But further looking seems to me that you sight them in for each barrel. One sight for the left and one for the right. I do agree that it is way to heavy to take on a long hike in the woods. Unless of course I could hire a gun bearer (or put a wheel on the butt stock and pull it along behind me).
