Great pointer. I flattened out a round ball and it works great. The lead conforms to the flint with each strike and I tightened the screw to provide a secure fit after a few strikes.

I'm glad it worked for you. I sort of stumbled onto the idea. The leather was destroyed, and I had wanted to use lead. I look all over for some lead, and then it hit me. A box of round balls was sitting right in front of me. I felt stupid for not thinking of it sooner.

Got out the hammer, and was shocked at how easy it was to make. Lead is really easy to work with.
