Going ot set up a couple stands in the morning for archery then its off to the range for some old school shooting. After reading Cayugad's thread on his Lyman, I am going to break out my custom stocked GM 1:70 twist .54 and make sure its ready for the early ML season in PA. I could use the Accura but that would be too easy. I'll give the caplock the old college try. I plan on using the Accura for blackies in November.

Well good luck with that traditional rifle. That will be good medicine.

I am going to use my .50 cal. GPR flinter this year along with a friend. We are going primitive this year!!! He will use his custom built FL. He did it without a kit. It is beautiful.

Well got the .54 out today and fired 3 shots at 50 yds. at a 3" black bull and hit it all 3 times off the rest. All 3 shots were touching about 1/2" left of center. I took a sand filled gallon jug (one of those blue detergent ones) and set it up at 100 yds. My first shot I hit the bottom left corner. I did a minor sight adjustment up and right on the T/C Peep sight. I fired 3 more shots and walked up to the jug and got a big grin when I saw 3 additional holes in the jug with about a 4 - 5" spread. Fired one more shot at 50 yds to see where I was impacting and I was only 1 1/2" high. Perfect.
My load was a home cast pure lead .530" RB, .018" pillow tick patch bore butter lube, and 90 gr of Goex FFg set off by Win #11 magnum caps.
On a side note, my friend shot my.50 cal 320 gr REAL bullets out of his T/C Hawken/GM LRH barrel at 50 yds. His 3 shots were all touching forming a figure 8 in the bull. When shot at 100 yds though with a 100 gr FFg charge they had considerable drop. After shooting at 100 yds and making some sight adjustments until he was hitting reguarly he shot at 50 yds and was impacting 3" high. Still plenty close enough for deer. A 6 o'clock hold on a deer at 50 yds will take out the top of the heart and bottm of the lungs.
