Default Sometimes Simple is Best

I have several " fancy " MZ's but every now and again I like to shoot the White Bison. I think I paid $75 for the gun and put a $30 Simmons on top.

Today was a nice shooting day and started at 75 Yards. I'm shooting 80 grns. of T7 and a Hornady GP 425. After the fist shot I adjusted the scope and had 5 rounds in a nice little group.

I moved to 100 and while it's not great, it's a pretty nice group for the old girl.

While it takes a little longer to clean and won't win any beauty contest, the simple Bison can hold it's own with any of today's high end guns.

Josmund - while your Bison may now win a beauty contest (as you said) and it probably wouldn't win an accuracy contest against a higher end ML, it looks like it will kill a deer just a dead. The accuracy of that 100 yd target is more than good enough for hunting accuracy. I have an old Knight that I paid $50 for on an online auction and I put a used Bushnell shotgun scope on it and it will shoot about 1" or so at 100 yds. (Even with a big ol rust spot about 2" down the bore)

Those old simple Whites seem to really do the trick...

I have the even less expensive White Lightning and I am amazed at how good that thing shoots... Doc White really new how to build them...

This was my very first outing with it...

Awesome guns.... both of them...

I picked up my Bison for next to nothing and threw the same scope on it. I have to agree with you, they are not fancy but they are a shooter without question. That is some real good shooting there. That is a 50 caliber is it not? You ever try the UC Short Mag conicals? Underclocked really had this thinking shoes on when he designed that mold and got them ordered for us. Those 450 grain conicals are great shooters and there is no deer that could walk away from one. You know, I have never shot Great Plains Conicals out of mine. I have to try that some day. Thanks for the idea.

Some day Sabotloader will want to shoot conical bullets out of his baby White. Maybe I will have to mail Mike my Model 97 in .451 and he can freak out with a rifle that accurate with all his fancy bullets. I think that rifle has a 1-20 twist.

Ooops - I apologize. I had it confused with a different rifle. For some reason I was thinking of one of the old cheap Traditions rifles. I know the White's shoot.
But I do believe we are obsessed with accuracy. Nothing wrong with that for sure. The more accurate the better. But Josumd's target at 100 yds at <3" is more than accurate enough for most hunting situations.

I should have mentioned. It's a .540.

I don't about the conicals you're mentioning. I'd try some others if I had a chance.

The short mags are .504.

I think Bull Shop once made .54 caliber conicals and I know that No Excuses makes them.

The accuracy of the Whites are an undisputed fact. They ended knights 6 year dominance at the manufacturers match at Friendship and as Doc put it " cleaned their clock good"
I just picked up 17 boxes of bullshops for my Whites. I sure was glad to find them since Dan quit making them for now.
You gotta love a White. I would put one against any high end muzzleloader anyday of the week.
