Default I'm now corrupted

I've been reading too many of these threads and I am slowly getting corrupted. You all know that I got a V2 (haven't shot it yet). But yesterday I went to Cabelas and low an behold they had a CVA BH209 breech plug for the V2 for only $20. I ended up buying it along with a canister of BH209. I thought I was going to the dark side when I started using Pyrodex in my caplocks but now I am almost too far gone.
This weekend (or maybe even tomorrow) I will see if all the claims about BH209 are true.
Just a couple questions - Does BH209 require heavier charges, like 100gr plus)? What do you use to clean the gun - a nitro solvent or BP substitute solvent like T17?

Same cleanup as smokeless. Butchs ,hoppes or whatever you prefer. BH requires a very firm seating of the bullet on the powder but not necessarily larger charges.

BH is a great powder but to expensive for me especially in 10 oz. bottles. Powder volume... BH is stronger than the Pyros and slightly ahead of T7. So what ever your pyro loads were the same volume of BH will be 15+% greater in pressure. The heavier the bullet you shoot the more efficient BH becomes and increases velocity accordingly.

90 or 100 will do you fine the original BP works fine also if you do a little alteration like Ron posted.

Sad. It's just so sad. We lost another one.

I'm going to go outside and drop a match into to 200 grain pile of GOEX in his memory.

Let me tell you - I am meticulous when it comes to cleaning my MLs. And after my session today with the V2 and BH209, it still took me the same amount of time to clean my rifle. I used a minimum of 20 patches until they started coming out clean.
I did find that Hoppes Elite (Copper, lead, carbon remover) works really well. But after seveal patches with it and having them come out fairly clean I used Montana Xtreme Cowboy blend and that got quite a bit more fouling out.
I do honestly believe that BH209 makes for easier loading without swabbing between shots. But honestly I see no difference in the amount of time for cleaning.

I agree, but I never thought CF guns cleaned all that easy either. The easiest cleaning guns were Hawken style guns with black powder.

I can clean it squeaky clean with one patch in soapy water. A bunch more patches to dry the bore, but they are just soaking up water, and can be reused over and over.

I use a minimum of 15 patches with BH 209, because I want the patch to come out snow white.

60 grs is the lowest I have shot and they shot just fine. I think it takes longer to cleanup, the hard carbon deposits take some time.

The few times I used Blackhorn in my X7 it took longer to clean the breechplug than it takes to fully clean my Renegades with GOEX. Maybe I don't have the Blackhorn technique down quite right.
