Congrats on a great looking bear!! Do you require Sabots for those bullets with your Lyman Deerstalker? If so, which ones did you use?

Really good videos. How something as large as a bear and suddenly appear and disappear still amaze me.

Hey all!! This is flintlockjohnny here.
So it all started back at the begining of summer when we decided to bait the one stand. We were baiting with oats, corn and molasses. This was the main bait that we used a long with some table scaps and what ever else we werent eating at home. So every week we were going in to the woods and baiting the stands with a gallon of molasses and a bag full of feed or maybe two. So we kept baiting then an un-timely forest fire broke out keeping us out of the woods for about 3 weeks. So after we were able to get back into the woods we decided to go find another spot to bait at. This spot wasn't the easiest to get to either lol. So a week before the season my Dad tells me to go out during a Monday to bait both the stands. So I loaded up the bikes, 4 bags of feed, and I took the whole bucket of molasses and headed to the woods. So I start heading in and the very first bait I rolled my Dad's bike . So I hopped off before it completely rolled and I was stuck in a little situation. I heard a truck coming down the road so I waved the truck down and it turned out to be an Algonquin Authority Officer . So he generously helped to get the bike back on its four wheels. So I go on about my day and baited all the stands took me about 4 hours lol. It also turned out I was going into stands 4 minutes behind the time when the bears were their . So now we waited until Friday a few days after my brother got home from BMQ and we baited the stands once more. The far stand where I went to the barrell was practically empty . So I knew what stand I was going to sit in lol. So opening day opens up and there was freshly filled baits and the day was looking good! We headed out to hunt around 1pm and I took my Dad's bike and dropped him off and headed to the far stand. I got around my stand around 2:30 and I got up the tree and sat down after I tied myself to the tree. So I was waiting around for a bit, heard noises the usual. I then decided to whip out my phone and try playing a game to pass a little time and wake myself up lol. And wouldn't you know a bear pops up. It was 3:30 at the time so only 1 hour at the stand. So shoved the phone in my pocket and turned on the video camera. So I just watched the bear walk in super cautiously. It came to the barrell and slapped its big ol' face onto it and started to scratch its chin . So I kept watching and my Dad told me that there was a bigger bear with a dark nose on it and this one was light brown so I decided to let the bear go. But it wasn't without temptation because it decided to walk on over till it was directly under my feet!! This time I primed my rifle and was ready to shoot if it wanted to pay a visit. It decided to stroll along and it was a good decision. So I kept waiting it out in the stand had a good slice of a meatlover's pizza that was a inch thick lol. The time passed till it was 5:45 ish and I heard a loud crack... I looked towards the noise and more cracks came out. So I knew there was going to be something coming my way. I waited it out some more turned on the camera and saw this big ol black bear walk out infront of me. In my head I was like OH MY . I knew it was the big bear my Dad was talking about. I primed my rifle once again and waited for my shot. The bear dwarfed the barrell. He decided to sniff and smell the previous bear that was on rubbing and scratching lol. And I patiently waited for the right shot. The big beast turned giving me a broad side shot and I didn't wait for an invitation and shot! The big boy ran off into the woods while I was trying to recover my hearing that I temporially lost. I went into my bad opened up the velcro pouch and grabbed my compass to get a barring to where I heard the bear last. I turned off the camera after giving it a thumbs up to say yes I got him . I listened carefully and heard the bear trample through the bush putting out a lot of good moans. At this time I packed up, changed the camera card and started heading towards the bike to get my Dad. Only one problem forgot my rifle at the stand lol. I went back grabbed my rifle and headed on. Got to my Dad in about 20 minutes (new record). And I started walking in and he asked me "well? Did you get one? Is it big?" and I told him "ya I think so". So I dropped him back off at the truck so he could get the other bike and I headed to find my bear. The bear ran about 20-25 yards down a hill to the right of the bait... Down a hill. I tol my Dad "well then. This is going to suck" lol. And lead him down to the bear where he then realized its only 10 yards from the road! We grabbed the bikes and headded down and pulled the beast from the woods onto the trail where we fixed him up for the ride home . My Dad says "John that's a big ****in bear, like look at the nuts on him the huge!!" So we rolled him over and I got my hero pictures by the bear. After we got there around 7 and we were done 9:30-10:00. We skinned him out for a shoulder mount. My Dad forgot some important tools.. Such as a saw, knife sharpener, duck tape, bandages (for my Dad who kept cutting himself), and a come along. All 350-400 pounds of him made my Dad sweat his ass off lol. Got home around 11:30 called the neighbour over for a show, a beer and some more photos until we layed the beast into our fride for him to take a little nap and to cool down for the night. Giving us some time to recover and start the work back up after a good sleep from 2am till when we woke up lol. All in all a good day to be in our household .

He heard the death moan about about 10 minutes after he shot it. When we went to look for it John yell's to me. "Dad, you're going to hate me" I asked why. He say's It died at the bottom of a cliff!!! So I go over there and as it turned out it was only 10 yds off of the trail. Piece of cake getting him out but then the work started.
