Drill and tap powder drum
#1
One of the projects I'm working on is changing to thread size. Of my 54cal hawken. Changing it from the 6-1mm to 1/4-28. To make sure I have the right bit and tap, I ordered a set.just in case I mess up. I ordered two drums and alignment tool from tow. Talked to a guy that has done it.
The why.
There is a shop close to me that has a great deal on 1/4-28 nipples.

Getting stuff like that from Track is a pretty expensive way to go Corey. 1/4-28 taps are a common hardware store item, as are the correct #3 drill bits for that size tap. I doubt you could mess up that job and probably won't need the extra stuff.

Good to have just in case. More I talk to people about it and explan what I am doing. The easier the job sounds.
If it works out, I am going to switch the other two out.
Every one was out of the taps in my area

Just to let you all know...I've been a machinist all of my working years until recently, when my plant closed and I went back to college on the Govt's nickel. I know how things are made by looking at them and and I can see right away when things are done hastily, sacrificing quality, just to make a buck. The supposed "hot shot" stainless 1/4x28 nipples I purchased from TOW were absolutely NASTY with burrs...it took me twenty minutes or so to clean them up with needle files just to bring them to what I considered to be "useable"....LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!!!

I've yet to try any of the Ampco bronze, but I have heard nothing but praise for them. Next time I place an order, I might try a few...
