Hunting-Shooting but WOT
#1
Most everything is closed to hunting here so you have to make do... Decided to head out to the Meadow Country and get some small game hunting in.
We have a huge problem with these small ground squirrels - they are "HE Double Hockey Sticks" on new trees in a forest plantation and the cattle men hate them for all the holes they create in/on the open range. Doesn't seem to bother the older cows but the youger ones go nuts every once in awhile and run around like kids... until one steps in a ground squirrel hole on the run.
The other fact... there are not enough hunters to controll them - they love the meadows and new plantations around the meadows..
I normally use a Mark II 17HMR, but the 22 LR CCI Stinger ammo is much cheaper - not as explosive but they do the job.
But what fun..

Sabotloader, I have the same model Savage with a 4x16 Sightron scope. It will put every round of any type in a dime sized hole at 50 yards all day. I shoot that rifle more than any other cartridge gun. The 22rf is so accurate and cheap to feed.

Exactly...
I keep telling myself I need to invest in a better scope but then I keep telling myself it is only a 100 yard gun.. The 17 has 4x16 on it - it is much clearer and has a larger feild of view.

We have a critter around here called a pine squirrel. Tiny little red tree rats. I shot a bunch of them the first year up here and tired to cook them. Oh my goodness they were terrible. But you have to keep them thinned out too. They love to get into buildings and they tear havoc out of insulation, wires, etc. I had one chew right through the fascia of the woodworking building. He then got into the attic and made a heck of a mess. But he made the mistake of sitting in a tree next to the building for too long.. and that was the end of that problem. And bird feeders.. they will chew right through the plastic of the bird feeders to get to the seeds.
