Today I was out and looking for ground squirrels and what ever, when I saw a bunch of crows, magpies, and a vulture in the brush. I went to take a better look, and I see two coyotes. They stand up, and I shoot the easy one and the other got away. I went over to see what they had. It was a set of twin Black Angus calf's. I could tell that the cow had given birth recently but she was no where to be seen. I left the coyote at the road and went to tell the rancher. I told one of the hired hands wife's that I left the coyote by the road as a marker for them to find the calf's.
Man I wish I could have had a shot at the second one. I took a picture of the coyote with both calf's. Ron

I once had a woman chew me out when she found out I'd shot a coyote. She claimed they were just an innocent wild canine species, that fed on rabbits, squirrels and mice. When I tried to tell her the real truth, she just went wild, telling me off. Its strange how people really have no idea of the dangers coyotes present.
That calf is a valuable item. But that dead coyote is at least some pay back. Nice shooting!!

At today's price of cattle this was a huge loss. This rancher finishes his calf's so with that in mind this killing cost him close to 2000.00 down the road. If he were to sell those calf's as day old Angus he would have made 250 to 300 each. Ron

Good on shooting that coyote. Coyotes in OK kill a lot of newborn calves. In SW OK they kill about 1/3 of the fawns. Got five coyotes with muzzleloaders last deer season. i've had good luck setting up on gut piles after killing deer and hogs.

While coyotes are not the devils they are sometimes portrayed as, they are neither warm and cuddly nor in danger of extinction. Like anything else they require being managed and this means their status as excellent game for varmint hunters. Too many coyotes = bad.
