Renedage project
Well i almost got everything i need!
Ray sent me his old renegade kit stock as i guess he abused it and let the barrel go to rust :poke: and so he gave it to me under the orders to never sell it as it was his first and so thats no problem! I bought a .50cal barrel for it used and once i have the funds, i am going to buy a barrel blank .54cal fitted for with the TC breech plug. That barrel will need a lot of work but it will be the 54 i've been wanting. As for the stock, its in really darn good shape, i will have to rework some wood in the wrist area as its a lil to squared off and lumpy at one section, but thats maybe 20 minutes worth of careful file/sand block work. Thank you Ray, i really appreciate it and Promise never to sell it. I will get her all back into shape and have something to really enjoy for years. Got to call TC for a hammer screw and then maybe start the stock work. Pics coming later. |

Yep i got everything. I just ordered the hammer screw from dixie as TC said 6 to 8 week wait! That tool you send is awesome! Has everything a hunter would need, including what looks like a little vise grip to remove the stubborn unfired cap.
Once i get it up and running we'll see how this .50cal barrel shoots and if it doesn't do that well, its getting lopped down to 19" to remove some weight! |

Oh boy!! I got one side of the rear stock sanded down and then wet it to raise the grain, you talk about some wood grain on this sucker! Friggin gorgeous! No stain will be needed on this one as its a dark walnut.

No wonder it came off with only steel wool LOL. Its coming along, about the steam the rear section of the stock to raise the grain up so i don't have to do as much sanding to get the low spots out. Filed the buttplate to fit the stock as well. I am thinking about ordering a white spacer for the buttplate to give it a different look, help highlight it a bit.

I may look into a rubber recoil pad later down the road. Maybe see if the recoil pad off my wolf will fit. They only run $20 with shipping so it wouldn't be expensive to put one on if its a close fit.
That dern stain you used soaked in good! Its taking me more time steaming than usual to get the grain up enough to sand the stain out LOL. In the end i will use truoil on it, most likely 25 to 30 coats. Very pretty wood that needs to be shown off best as possible. |
