Another off topic post

In a previous post it was asked what we all do for a living. I enjoyed reading all the responses from everyone. It thought I would ask another off topic?, that being what other hobbies everyone has besides hunting and muzzleloading?. For myself the only other hobby I have is Cycling. I normally pedal my Bike anywhere from 5000-6000 miles a year. Looking forward to hearing everyone's response.

I have a renewed interest in golf. I used to play only a few rounds a year. 2 years ago my sons took up the game and I now play around 50 rounds a summer. I really enjoy playing with my boys. I used to fish muskies all the time but now I rarely get out in the boat.

builder459 01-13-2012 08:15 AM

4 wheelin is my other passion. i am fortunate to live in one of the best area's on the planet for offroading.i have even designed suspension for jeep cherokees.

WV Hunter 01-13-2012 08:25 AM

I coach and watch alot of youth sports. My kids are high level atheletes and play year round in something, so we spend an awful lot of time involved in that. So much in fact that my bowhunting has gone from tons...very little at this point in my life. Its football season then, and I'm buried. Its all good though...tons of fun and great to watch them do well. I wouldn't have it any other way. Once they are gone, I'll get my life back. LOL

Music...specifically guitar. Acoustic sometimes, but mostly electric. And fishing.

SJAdventures 01-13-2012 08:33 AM

Fishing for spotted seas trout (aka specks here in the south) running beagles.

bronko22000 01-13-2012 08:51 AM

I used to golf when I lived in FL. But now that I am back in PA hunting and shooting is just about all I do. Everything else is just a by product. Example hiking (always looking for a new place to hunt), reloading (more shooting), archery practice (again hunting preparation) and walking to stay in somewhat better shape. Anything else I do is to appease the little lady (not so little anymore - and I will deny I ever said that) like going to the shore in the summer or those God awful shopping trips. But I usually stop by a Dicks, Cabelas, Bass Pro or Gander Mtn so its not a total bust.

nchawkeye 01-13-2012 11:20 AM

I love to both hunt and fish...We have 3 farms in eastern NC so planting food plots is also in the equation...

Other than that, I have raised 3 daughters...They are 29, 25 and 20...Frankly THAT has been my hobby the past almost 3 decades...I also work for myself and do most of our own repairs on the house and many on our vehicles...

I'm working on getting the wife back into that other hobby we use too have before we had children... :)

I also help out on our club range while maintaining an archery range on my hunting place and this year I am laying out a muzzle loading range on my hunting property. I am remodeling the gun room right at the moment. I am glad I do not work for a living[I retired 20 years a go last Nov.] I just would not have time.

HDMontana 01-13-2012 07:46 PM

If any time left over after working 2nd job, I try to get out on the harley.

gregrn43 01-13-2012 08:46 PM

I grow about a 2 acre garden during the summer, an acre of it is sweet corn. We do alot of 4 wheeler riding, my wife, son and I have one. Trotline and pole fish for catfish. We always take a few camping trips through the summer. Plant soybeans in a couple of food plots.

Yes, Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs.

cayugad 01-14-2012 05:29 AM

I garden. I have three of them so they keep me occupied somewhat. I like to fish if they are biting but sitting in a boat, bobbing around, is not my idea of fun. Riding atvs is a good time. But my year long passion is target shooting. Handguns, rifles, muzzleloaders, anything that goes boom!

SuperKirby 01-14-2012 05:56 AM

Currently just muzzleloaders and hunting. I used to have a lot of other ones, but now I have a 3 and a 4 year old, so time's kind of limited. I keep thinking I need to find a different hobby that that doesn't require the set-up time and cleaning time of shooting a muzzleloader. So far achery is leading the way for that, but I'm still trying to come up with the funds for it. I go back and forth as to whether or not it's something I'll really enjoy or not.

After reading some more replys It reminded me of some things I also do that I really enjoy, I cant believe I did'nt mention them.
Im a Bow Hunter and Archer more than anything, I shoot a-lot of competetion. Im a Charter Liftime Member with the I.B.O. (#000051) Plus the wife and I grow a garden also, a Big One! we love to grow things, Corn, Tomatoes, Peppers, Potatoes, Cucumbers, Squash, ect, and especially love Tomatoe Sandwiches. Along with the Apple Trees, Cherry Trees, Plum Trees, Pear Trees and Black and Red Raspberries we keep pretty busy throught the srping and summer and fall.
And breechplug grows Roes's, I grow them for the wife. Also I like to take Picture's, here's a coiple of my favorites. a couple from the roses I grow and one is a butterfly and a bumblebee on a wild flower pricker of some sort. Besides muzzleloading my hobbies are gardening and fishing. I mostly like to grow tomatoes and a variety of different peppers. Here are some of my tomatoes from last year.

omegasmoke 01-14-2012 10:21 AM

Amen! My 4 year old has pretty much been my hobby for 4 years, 9 months and that one afternoon where the wife and I had some spare time....

As a bachelor I used to SCUBA dive when I lived on the east coast. But the diving is not the same here in Arizona. Not that I have the time or $$ anyway.

Hoping to get in to reloading this year. I also go walking as a way to stay in shape both physically and mentally.

Good post BTW. I have enjoyed reading others hobbies.

BigDaddy12t 01-15-2012 08:07 AM

This was my favorite hobby before I really got into hunting. I still love it, and try to geet to a few races a year.

This was the last time I was on the track.

Bought a new chassis, and took all the good parts off and built this one, but sold it before I took it to the track.

BigDaddy12t 01-15-2012 08:15 AM

I have 2 main hobbies now when I am not hunting. Last year I baught an 86 Goldwing, and really enjoy that in the summer. Here is a pic of our first day trip last year.

My year round hobby is running my 3 trail cams. Here are a few pics from my check yesterday.

ronlaughlin 01-15-2012 08:40 AM

My hobby are hunting, shooting, fishing, and spending time in the shop.

flounder33 01-15-2012 08:59 AM

Ron,
Nice Fish! If and when I get out there to talk tomatoes with you maybe we could do a little fishing too!

ronlaughlin 01-15-2012 09:36 AM

Yes indeed! You didn't like the cabinet work?

flounder33 01-15-2012 09:52 AM

Oh yes, your woodworking jobs look very nice indeed. I like that little box best.

RobertSubnet 01-15-2012 09:58 AM

Wow nice fishing spot you got there!

Underclocked 01-15-2012 10:29 AM

Hey Ron, I think I've guessed what all those projects are

;)

ronlaughlin 01-15-2012 11:16 AM

The only guess you made correctly was the frame for my best 5 shot group ever. At any rate that was the intent, however when it came time to install the group in the frame, it wouldn't fit.

That is Holter Lake, between Great Falls, and Helena.

Josmund 01-15-2012 05:07 PM

I've made the hobby cycle.

When I was younger I fished for walleyes like mad. I dabbled in Tourneys and took it pretty seriously. Back then I lived in SD.

12 years ago I moved to KS and took up golf when my boy showed an interest. I was golf crazy for about 5 years and actually got pretty good.

I really like the MZ hobby. I can do most of it at home with a range trip about every other weekend and quite honestly, this forum helps make it fun. I still fish a few times a year and still play a little golf. We'll see what's next as my youngest is a senior in High School and I'll have more free time.

I'll miss the kids but look forward the next stage of life.

My Buddy wants us to go all Fishing, turn Pro.....we have what it takes and have already won 2 Boats and lot's a CASH, but Im still a Hunter first and Fisherman Second. He likes Fishing more than Hunting, I dont. Besides the Walleye Fishing we have some of the Best BASS Fishing too, I caught a 11.13 Smallmouth and in the Fall we have some Great Steelhead and Salmon Fishing with all our Creeks, with them we catch Browns and Rainbows that would make your Mouth Water, with Brown's and Steelies going over 15lbs, it's a great placee to Hunt and Fish here but you would'nt want our TAXES.
