I've bore sighted many, it won't hit where bore sighted, it get it on paper but not close enough to hunt with...

Bore sighting does not take into effect recoil and how much he lets the rifle kick, bullet velocity or time that bullet is in the barrel...

If he hasn't shot the gun, he's not ready to go...

tell him to stay home he is no hunter

I think it would be most realistic for him to begin getting ready for the 2012 season. I know that isn't what he will want to hear but it is what it is.

Great news a buddy will be taking this guy to the range tomorrow and set him up good. He did say he read on here what I was telling him all along and had a change of heart based on what you guys said. Way to go fellas.
