Default Ohio trip

Friday morning is the big day. My wife and I are heading out for Ohio at 3am. Its a 14hr drive to my cousins from our home. Got the muzzloaders packed up and ready to go. This will be the first time my wife has hunted in Ohio, hope she gets a good one. My cousin says he been seeing a good number of deer this year and took a 130 inch with his bow last weekend. Maybe with a little luck they will still be moving good when we get there. Were gonna take are bows with us and try to get in at least a day of bowhunting before the gun season opens.

What part of Ohio will you be hunting in?

I've had decent luck so far this year where I live in southwest Ohio. 3 with the crossbow so far, and my son got one Saturday on the youth gun season opener.

Looks like those counties have had slightly better results than where I hunt (Adams county) the past couple years.
You should have a good chance of filling some tags!

I hope so, I haven't been up there in 3 years. Always enjoyed going to Ohio to hunt.

That area is a good part of the state to hunt. I'll be hunting in Harrison County on Monday, also south east part of the state. Bow season wasn't so good this year (especially compared to a record year last year), so hope gun season will be better...

Hunters up there where I have been before drive all day long. Here in Arkansas driving isn't a popular way to hunt at least where I'm at. My cousin is off all week and he says were gonna do a bunch of driving. I hope the first day I get to do some stand hunting. Driving is gonna be a new experience for me.

Yeah, guys in that part of Ohio seem to LOVE drives. My advice, if you are able to sit in a stand for the first day of the season, it can be very productive. You tend to have an army of other guys pushing the deer around doing all the work for you . All you have to do is wait for the deer to run past. I've gotten several this way.

Drives are fun, though I haven't found them to be as productive. We usually put on a few drives, but don't do it all day long. One thing I've found is that it is sometimes better to do a "silent" drive. -You have a couple posters on the corners of the far end of the piece you are going to drive, then the drivers go through but go slowly and without yelling or making much noise. This still pushes the deer, but they tend to not be as panicky- walking and not running if you get my drift. Makes for an easier shot for the posters. Plus, this way sometimes the drivers get a shot at one too....
