Shooting - lunch break
#1
Went out about 11 this morning. About 60 with a very light breeze and overcast. A great morning for shooting.
Started with 90 gr. BH209 in a TC U-View measure and 300 gr. SST's with provided red sabot at 25 yrds. First three shots not on the target. Moved up to 10 yards same loads and at the very bottom of the target. Moved the rear sight up some and still pretty low, about 1" group. Upped the charge to 110 gr. Didn't move the group up much but tightened the next three shots to one ragged hole. Moved the sight up and moved back to 25 yards again. Good left to right still a little low. Moved the rear sight all the way up and back to 50 yards. Looks like all is well at 50. The problem is that I can't go up any farther and if I move back to 100 I'll be a couple inches low for sure.
Stopped to grab a sandwich real quick then going to go back out with 240 xtp's in a green crush rib and see what happens.
I'll be back...

You are shooting your Pro-Hunter correct?
Did not realize also that you were shooting open sights... if so you might well run out of ramp before you are able to get to the correct elevation...
Check your front sight, can you push the front blade out... is it dove tailed in or is the front sight all one piece? If you have a dovetail you may well want to push that one out and go with a shorter blade to raise the muzzle.
If you have a mic you can measue the height of the current sight and them go down from there... There is a possiblilty that the sight height is stamped on the bottom of the sight also.
Are you going to be using the open sights for hunting or are you planning on scoping the gun???
I get very good accuracy with a 300 grain bullet and 110-120 grains of BH or T7.
Keep after it you will get it...

I'm using a the Tru Glo fiber optic ghost ring set. I think some of it is the front sight being too low.
I switched .430 240 gr. XTP's in a green CR sabot. At 50 yards I was about 4 inches high and 2-3 inches right but shot about a 1 or so inch group. Moved the rear sight left and got the windage lined up.
Moved back to 100 yards. 2 shots good left to right but still about 3 inches high. Moved the sight - it's one of the slide/glides and there's no markings on it to even be able to guess how the movements are going to change POI. First shot after adjustment and shot was about 4 inches low but good left/right. Guessed again on the elevation adjustment. This time it was good, shooting a 3 shot, 1 1/2 - 2 inch group, about an inch high at 100 yards.
I realize that this would all mean a lot more with pictures to back it up, but the only digital camera we have is my wife's that she uses for her photography business. I'm scared to touch that thing.
As for open sights, I don't really like them that much, but MN says I have to hunt muzzleloader season with them. I keep hoping they'll change the rules to allow a scope, but until then I'm kind of stuck. I think over the winter I'm going to try to get a Williams FP peep, should help things be a little more precise.
One other thing I've noticed after shooting the Pro Hunter a couple times - for all the hype surrounding break actions, I really don't think they save any time cleaning over my old Disc Extreme. I honestly don't think it took me any less time to clean the Pro Hunter, it was still about 45 mins. to get the Pro Hunter cleaned the way I wanted it to be. Not that it matters that much. I bought the Pro Hunter thinking it would save a lot of time cleaning, hence allowing me to shoot a little more often. Oh well.
All in all, it was a good day shooting. If I get a chance to shoot again before the season starts, I would like to take a few shots at 100 yards and see where it hits on a clean cold barrel. But if I don't get out again I would still feel comfortable taking it out hunting.

That's actually the exact set up I'm looking at. I like the set up I have ok, it's gotten better as I've gotten more used to it. It's great for quick shots. Not the best for precision shooting.
It's set up pretty good. Like I said, I would feel confident taking it out hunting the way it is now.
