The locks on flint locks and cap locks are the essence of simplicity. Take the lock off and mess with it. It will be nearly impossible to mess anything up. You'll figure out what's wrong with it I'm sure.

Did you take that lock off yet striper?

No spring. The screw on the side of the rifle opposite the lock is what holds the lock in place. Just unscrew it and the lock will come out as an assembly. I will take a picture of a spare lock I have laying around and show you the back before you try. Be back in a bit.

Darn! I was about to take that piece of junk off your hands for half what you paid for it so you could cut your losses.

OK Striper - I took a picture of the back of a lock I have for parts. There are a few parts missing but this is what yours will look like (butwith a hammer and a coil spring). Bring your hammer to full c0ck, close the frizzen (the part that covers the pan), hold the lock on both ends and push up on the hammer release with your right thumb. The hammer should fall all the way down.
