These seem like a great idea what do they cost?it take it there a lot less than a BDC scope, which seems a lot quicker to me. Ray

All you need pay is whatever the VX-3 model you choose costs, plus $90 more. HEAD00O1 recommends one go this route.

As soon as we can box it up and mail it, we are sending Leupold a 4 power FX-II. They will convert it to the CDS dial, and engrave one dial with the ballistics i include with the scope. For this work, it will cost me $150.

wow, that's expensive when one considers what Leupold want for there scopes to begin with.i suppose if your on a m/L sniper team it may be a good route to take. i think for most though the BDC scopes offered now may be the way to go..it's a very nice concept if one can afford it.thanks for the info.... Box Test - Please fill me in.
Put a good size target out at 100 yards and take a shot (#1). Then adjust the elevation three inches up and take another shot (#2). Then adjust the windage three inches right and take another shot (#3). Then adjust the elevation three inches down and take another shot (#4). And finally, adjust the windage three inches left and take another shot (#5). Keep the same point of aim for all shots.

The shots should have formed a square of about three inches with #1 & #5 at the lower left corner, #2 at the upper left, #3 at the upper right, and #4 at the lower right. If it does that, the scope is tracking accurately.

If you have ammo to burn, take two or three shots at each position, or go around the square twice.

Our normal Summer afternoon rains have returned. So daytime highs are back around normal high eighties. Not as bad as what the mid-West and North-East are getting.

I usually go 3 inches or 4 inches. But I make a complete square around the first shot. In other words three inches left and up for the first shot. Then 6 inches to right. Then 6 inches down. Then siz more inches back left. The up 3 inches and right 3 inches. This should return you to your very first point of impact(center dot) if your scope tracks perfectly.

Then take a ruler and measure your box. See how close it is to the measurements it should be.

This is strictly a one shot deal. Not shooting for a group. You want to know exactly how much your sope moves when you turn the turrets.

You will be suprised. But very few scopes will pass this test. Most Leupold's(of old) will not pass this test.

But some other scopes will really leave you amazed at how bad they work!!

As stated above I have a CDS on the new VX-3 and it works well. It also works well on my Swarovski 6X18, as well as my NF 3-15. Tom.

Dad gave me his Stevens Crack Shot when i was 9. At school sitting in class, all i could think about was getting out to shoot the rifle. When i turned 11 we moved to a place 3 blocks from the city limits. That allowed us to grab the rifle after school, wander off, and shoot at things. Dad was never sure he did the right thing, letting us wander off like that, but he never stopped it. He even knew of most of the things we did, that we shouldn't have done.

The CDS dial has seemed to erase all the years that passed, since that day i held the Stevens, and it was mine. I have been shooting every day since i mounted that scope on the X7.

Today the target was set out and i used the laser to tell me it was at 242 yard. The CDS was set at what i figured was about that, and we commenced to punch holes. The gun was loaded and fired 5 times, during which, the breeze came and went mostly from left to right.
