Range Report TC BC
#1
Well I finally had time to go out to the range. Wanted to play around with my Bone Collector. First tried to shoot some 300 grains lead cast semi wad cutters. It was AWFUL. I didn't even post the pic of the target. Was a 4inch plus group all over. Thought I was shooting a shotgun. Then I swabbed and switched to the Speer 300 grain Deep Curl. What a bullet! The three shot group on the target was my first three. Then I don't know what I was doing, but every bullet touched another one way or another. Going to have to play around with this one. It gives me roughly a 1/4 inch better group then XTPS. The last target is what I call the misfit group. I shot XTPS, Deep Curl, SST, and Shockwaves. Also different sabots; MMP Black, Harvester Crushed Rib, Hornaday Red sabots, and TC super glide. What I'm amazed about is how I still roughly stayed in two inch group with all the combinations. The only two that got out had the TC super glide sabots. There are some double bullet holes the picture just doesnt show it very well. Seems no matter what my Bone Collector will shoot a group with any bullet sabot execpt for the lead cast and TC super glide sabots. All were shot with a 90 grain BH209 charge. I still cant believe how much fun it is to shoot this gun. Can't wait till hunting season. Either going to hunt with the 300 grain XTP MAG or 300 grain Speed Deep Curl. Now I'm going to really settle down and focus on those two bullets and figure out whats best.

Sorry. 100 yards. Don't really shoot under 100 with this rifle. Once I get what I want at 100 I'll start at 200 yards. Atleast need this rifle to get out to 200. All my shots with it last year were 100 or less. But the average were I hunt is 150-175yards.
Havn't tried the 250 grains. Its just really hard for me to shoot under a 300 grain bullet. Hunted soo many years with my .450 marlin and 350 grains. Would feel like i'm shooting a girls gun if I went under 300 grains. Hell a .270 is like a bb gun to me anymore. So use to a big recoil its hard to go back. Find myself flinching with a lighter recoil.

For the longest time I put off switching over to the Deep Curls do to not knowing what to look for when buying bullets and sabots separately, but the guys on this forum finally got me talked into them, and I absolutely love them. Plus you can't beat the price.

Actually the price is the almost the same between the XTPS and Deep Curl for the 300 grains. Avg is a dollar give or take. Around here XTPS are easier to come by then Deep Curl. So its a hard decision for me. The money doesn't take part in this equation. Its all about performance. Another key factor is the ballistics. Whats my fpe at 100 and 200 yards with each. Which ever is the greater is going to be my bullet.
