Some Days You Can't Shoot For SQUAT

Well, it could have been worse I guess. But I was really hoping for better since it was only 50 yards.

I gave the .50 GM LRH TC Hawken a workout Saturday afternoon - a bright sunny eighty-five degree day with gusty wind.

The gun wears a TC Vernier peep sight with a fiber optic up front.

The plan was to shoot six different bullets over 95 grains of GOEX FFFg.

Here's what I got with each bullet.

This barrel is still pretty new. It had only twenty shots out of it before this session. I got a little "stutter" pushing loads down the bore, so gave it a few dozen strokes with JB bore paste when I cleaned it after the session.

One thing that surprised me in this session was the loading of those .458 Remingtons in Harvester sabots made for .451/452 bullets. They loaded fine, and no harder than with the MMP orange sabots made for .458 bullets.

All in all, the Deep Curls shot pretty well. Maybe that's just the best I can do with iron sights. :s2:

Dang flounder, `ya got me. Actually, I spent Friday afternoon and part of Saturday morning on an old tractor with a hard seat and loose steering bush hogging 3' high wheat on four food plots so the clover could grow. I was so tired I almost didn't shoot at all. I'd plan a session for Sunday morning also. But didn't get my sore @$$ and back out of bed until 10 a.m. and just packed up and headed home.

Well being sore and tired is not news to me. Actually for trying the different sabots, there is some good work in there. I think you might want to adjust powder charges and then see what happens.

Yeah, I need to do that Cayugad. I also want to try some Triple 7 with the Deep Curls.

I shot the other bullets just because I had them on hand. But the Speers will be my go-to bullet. If I can ever get those 300 grain Remington Semi Jacketed Hollow Points to shoot well I would not hesitate to hunt with them. I use them in my 45-70 with good results.

Forgot to mention this - I really didn't see any advantage to the inverted triangle target. I think I prefer a 3" dot better.

Looks like you have a pretty consistent 3 inch group going there. There's always something to be said for consistency.
