Try the 300 with 110gr BH209, it might work better for you at 200 yards especially on a mulie. Only have whitetail here in Vermont but I believe a muley is much bigger. T7 powder 110 gr 260 gr PT Gold Muzzle... 2025fps/2365 fpe 100yd....1680fps/1625fpe 200yd....1395fps/1125fpe That's plenty for Muley's To compare with 300gr T7 powder 110gr 300gr PT Gold Muzzle.........1995fps/2640fpe 100yd..........1670fps/1885fpe 200yd..........1400fps/1305fpe No doubt the 300gr has more power, but I consider it an elk load, and a bit overkill for deer. At 200yds the 260gr is shooting flatter. I'd prefer to have that over more fpe. With that said. I'll try the 300gr and see if I like it. |

I got a few Whitetails hanging on the wall that were wacked with a Rem 870 slug gun that had a Simmons Pro Diamond 4X riding on top of it. Its a good scope, I would just want a little more zoom out to 200yds but that's me....I like to zoom in.

My Z5 Omega loves the 300's with a Crushed Rib. While I don't have the pictures of the bullets terminal performance ( The bullet picture that is ) I can tell you they're 2 for 2 on deer. My groups tightend up when I went up to the heavier bullet. |
I got those figures from Harvester, so they may be exaggerated.
In another thread I talked about switching to elk. I've always hunted both elk and deer in the past. I was going to hunt just deer, but I think hunting just elk will be better. So, I will be using the 300gr PT Gold. Probably better in case I run into a grumpy bear too. I guess I should increase the powder to 110 gr too. Good thing I installed a Simms Limbsaver recoil pad. The Omega pad was terrible. edit..Just had a thought. They probably used T7 3F for the test. Is that what you're using? 2F will be slower. |
