Knight LRH info please
 

Hello all, I am new to muzzleloading and have been researching knight muzzleloaders and came across this site and there seems to be some very knowledgeable people here on knight guns. So I have a few questions for you. I am looking at a nib Knight LRH - 27" Forest Green 50 CAL with SS for about 550.00 a very beautiful gun. I think the price is right on this closeout. The problem is 209 primers are not legal here in WA. I called Knight today to see if it could be converted to a musket cap primer and they said yes though they didn’t seem real confident and didn’t tell me how much it would cost me. Here in WA all Knight owners use the Bighorn or the wolverine and the MK85. So I am wondering if I buy this gun and convert it to musket cap am I just ending up with an overpriced Bighorn? Is it worth the effort? I picked up a closeout bighorn 50 cal SS for 320.00 but I need two guns, one for my son.

I thought states with the #11/Musket cap requirement also required a open breach too. Even if you could convert a LRH, the cap would be enclosed. I thought Original DISCs had an insert for the Orange FPJ to use a cap. Mine mentioned it in the manual and had something in the parts bag but i never looked at it. I know where to get one NIB for $199 in 50cal blue.

Ive never seen a red DISC cap conversion but i guess it could be done. Finding a MK85 in good shape is probably a better way to go and much easier to carry than a LRH.

the North West Explorer is 1 in 48 twist a major flaw? And yes WA requires open breach but Knight has what they call the "western kit" for the disc extreme and that is what I tried to get as conformation on the LRH

Interesting, ive never seen the Western Kit. I will have to check it out.

Once there was a kit that you could install in a Orange plastic jacket so that it could shoot caps. The Orange plistic jacket was used in the older 'Original DISC' series. I am not sure that the kit or jackets are even available at this time.

Says in stock for $55, Looks like you use some of your existing bolt parts.

It should fit a LRH too. Ive used an Elite and Extreme bolt in mine so i don't see why not.

IMO i think you're just better off buying an older model thats set up for #11 and a muzzle loader that has a history of being able to shoot conicals.

Mine, well the 50's I have shoot .503/460 grain conicals just fine... but he is not limited to conicals he can shoot most anything he wants in Washington.

Really should say that is a real decent buy on an LRH also. The have a guaranteed accuracy statement.

The only thing I think is a neagative about them is that the stock is really bulky and the gun is a little heavy to pack around, as compared to the Extreme of Elite.

If you want to spend top dollar on a cap and conical shooter. I know a guy selling a beautiful White 504 rifle with a nice scope for that much. Nice gray laminate bedded Boyds stock too.

My Extreme 50 shot the 410 and 460 Great Plains pretty good but not like a White usually will with the bigger conicals.
