Has anyone tried fire lapping their mustang and if so was there any improvement in accuracy?

What kind of accuracy are you getting wallnuts? And, what loads are you shooting?

Just under 3" with 100 gr. white hots. I have also tried tripple 7 and pyrodex all with simular results.
I group at 1 1/2 to 1 5/8 with my old traditions and 150 gr. tripple 7.
My traditions xlt is just as bad. I'll give the lapping a shot. Target shooters seem to have good luck with it.

Fire lapping won't hurt, and may help. Three inch groups are perfectly acceptable for a hunting load if that's at 100 yards. But we all want better if we can get it.

When you tried Triple Seven and Pyrodex, was that with pellets also? If so, I would get a jug of loose Pyrodex RS or Triple Seven and try loads in five grain increments from 80 to 110 grains. I'll bet you get the best groups with something in the 85 to 95 grain range. Also, you didn't mention what bullet you are using. You may want to get some 300 grain XTPs or Deep Curls and Harvester H5045SB sabots and give them a try. Those bullets shoot well out of most of my guns and are the best shooting bullets in my Mustang. Mine is not a tight shooting target gun either. My best loads get me groups in the two inch range at 100 yards.

We are verry limited in Manitoba as to what we can get in lead ,powder and sabots. I will tr the fire lapping in my xlt and mustang and try your suggestions. This will have to wait untill the two feet of snow at the range is gone. Thanks for the advise.

Question Lyman Mustang

Did Lyman discontinue the Mustang? It seems that just about every vendor has them listed as backordered or discontinued...

You can order bullets and sabots for PR bullets. Most muzzleloader supplies and bulk pistol bullets from Cabelas. Both are in Manitoba.

If there is nothing wrong with your barrel lapping of any kind won't help. The problem a lot of people have is with the thickness of the sabot petals not being right for their barrel. Do your bullet sabot combinations load real hard or easy?
