What's it worth?

What's it worth?
I can get a .54 cal.Thompson Center Hawkins.The barrel is rusty inside and has had a couple inches cut off the end.Any ideas what it would be worth?

Being a .54 it is worth a little more IMO. If the stock is good, and the lock and trigger work well... depending on the rust if the barrel you might have to just decide that is junk. Offer them $125.00 and see what they say. You can always go up. Check that stock for cracks. They show up near the escutcheon plate and the tang. I have seen a rusty Hawkins go for as much as $225.00 just so you know. I guess it depends on how bad you want it.
The real problem is the fact the new ones are now so expensive. People think that their rusty old rifles are worth almost what a new on is, and that is just not so. A new Hawkins sells for $500.00-$600.00 and you can not get the big bore anymore.
You could buy that and then throw a Green Mountain Slow twist roundball barrel on it. Make a nice rifle then.

All of my muzzleloaders are .50 cal..I guess it would be neat to have a .54 cal.I probably would want to get a new barrel for it.I would still be making out like a bandit.

If you can get that thing for anything under $100 and grab yourself a nice new .54 1:70 twist Green Mountain barrel you'll have a fantastic gun for $300 or less. What a Merry Christmas!
