Hey everyone, I finally have a chance to go sight in my new CVA Wolf next week and I'm looking for load suggestions. I'll be using loose T7 for powder. I have some .40 cal 200 XTPs with MMP dark blue sabots, but I got to thinking that I might want to have a Plan B on hand in case these don't work out. I'm interested in saboted rounds only, no conicals or powerbelts.

Forgot to mention. Shots will be 100 yards or less and would prefer a load that doesn't kick too much, seeing as my dad will be using it and he's not too crazy about recoil after a shoulder surgery and 2 detached retinas.

A GoldDot/DeepCurl 250gr, 80gr of powder and a sabot that fits your gun.....Usually a Harvester Short Black sabot seems to be popular with the newer CVA 50s.

I shoot 80 gr of T7 and .452, 300 gr XTPs with Harvester Crush Ribbed. I was going to go with the 250 gr Gold Dots, but no one had them as they were transitioning to the Deep Curl name.

Thanks for the replies. I've seen a couple people now that have really good results with .452 300 grain bullets - maybe the Wolf likes heavier bullets???

My gun really liked the 240 gr XTPs that come in the 30 pack from TC. I didn't care for their performance upon hitting shoulder. Most of that was also because I was shooting around 100 gr maybe, but I want the best chance of a pass through. No noticeable difference in kick either.

I thought you wanted less recoil?

The Wolf might shoot a 300gr very well. The DeepCurls or even an XTP should do fine. Recoil is noticeably more with a 300gr vs a 250gr in a carbine. You may also need a tad more powder to tighten up the group with a 300gr. Speer offers a .451 300gr UniCore soft point that is cheap to try out before investing in more expensive bullets.

In the "premium" price class, Barnes offers loose 45cal 225gr XPBs that are designed for 45 Colt velocity and may be a great choice within your needs. They should be really mild on the shoulder, shoot pretty flat to 100 yards and still have great expansion.

Go with the 200gr XTP's and 70-80gr's of T7, your Dad will think he's shooting a .22 and he'll Love Ya. That will be plenty to do the Job out to 100yds.
