Default I am in serious need of help

I have been hunting since the first weekend in October. Bow first, then blackpowder, now rifle. I did get a nice little 7 ptr the first time out with the rifle though. But my problem is I am sitting at work thinking about hunting. I have gotten all of my deer with a rifle except for 1 with a bow and 1 with my BP rifle. But I scoped my BP rifle this year and am itching to get a shot with it. It is all I can think about? Should I see Dr. Phil?

On a positive note, I am off all next week and will be rifle hunting the first half and BP hunting the second half. For the first half of the week, I am going to hunt with my father-in-law and will be covering a field where I could get a shot to 200+ yard so I am using the rifle. The second half, I will be hunting around my house where shots will be <100 yards. I know a BP gun will go well past 100 yards but I don't have anywhere to practice past that.

The really good news is I have until Jan. 1 to get a shot with the BP gun and will be hunting hard to do it. I also have to help my wife get her first deer. So I have to get that done so I can go back after them myself.

Anyway, just had to vent because I can't wait to get into the woods.

You seriously have the first part of the epidemic... and you are working on the second part of the desease, cuz once you start harvesting on a somewhat regular basis with the ML gun you will loose all interest in the centerfire also and you will be compelled to purchase more ML's....

You must control your emotions and thoughts maybe watch hunting shows on Televison or rent some for home viewing. At work get one of the new phones that allow to watch TV will working.

Hope something works for you...

Me, it is snowing here - so I am going hunting...

Dude, I hear ya. This site helps me get through the day during hunting season. And when deer season ends, I will be tempted to slip into a depression!

Sounds like you're getting a lot of hunting days in. Good for you!

BTW, what load are you shooting and what scope?

I am using a Nikon Omega scope with the BDC reticule. I am shooting 2 50gr Pyrodex pellets behind a Hornady SST 250 gr sabotted bullet. The gun is shooting and grouping great.

My wife has a TC Pro Hunter and shooting the same scope and load. I am hoping to bag a deer with my Knight and then try her TC.

Since that is a very common load, I bet your BDC reticle has aiming points set up for it already.

I took a buck at 140 yards with 90gr BH209 and 260gr Harvester Scorpion and there was very little drop from the 100-yard zero. Granted, 140 isn't 200, and I think 90 BH209 is a little faster than 2 Pyrodex pellets, but I'm sure the BDC will be on target for you.

The BDC was made for 150 gr of Pyrodex. I just scoped it this summer and don't have anywhere to shoot past 100 yards. From my understanding, the bullet will drop 4" to 5" from 100 to 150 yards and my gun is set about 1" high at 100 so I would take a shot out to 150. Between now and next season I want to find somewhere I can shoot to 200 and see where it and I hit. The gun is likely a better shooter than me.

Im with ya on the Huntin Fever part, I cant wit untill tomorrow to unleash My ACCURA. But the dang Weatherman says WINDY, up to 35mph+, noot good.
I went with the Leupold Ultimate Slam ML Scope because it has different settings to adjust to for what powder your using, 2,3 or a Shotgun setting, no geussing like the Omega.
I dont think you'll drop that much using your load (4"-5"@ 150) I have a fixed scope on one of My ACCURA's it's set up with 2 50gr Pyro Pellets and a 240gr bullett, close to what your shooting.
On this one Im sighted in at 2" high at 50 yds, that will put me just about dead on at 150 and about 3 1/2" low at 175. I dont know where you are sighted in at 50yds but I know the bullett travels on a upward path from 50 to 100 befor it starts to drop, so Im actually a little higher at 100 than what Im at, at 50yds. So you being a 1" at 100 must put you under what Im siighted in at 50 (2" high). Im about 2 3/4" high at 100yds.
Good Luck and hope I did'nt confuse you. And just remember on close shots under 50yds using this sight in make sure you aim for the heart area so your not too high in the lungs if you aim dead center lungs being sighted in at 2" high at 50yds.

Breech, I will be hunting with My ML. Have not hunted with a shotgun in over 10 yrs now. I have both a CVA Accura and a Savage Smokeless but I think I will go with the Accura tomorrow. Where in N.Y are you?
