I love the smell of blackpowder in the morning
#1
Got settled in one of my stands this morning around 6:30am. Had my trusty .50 Hawkens with me, just got done this week with adding some finishing touches to the leather lace up sling I put on it. In the stand for 15 minutes and have a deer sneak by me in the dark, little while later had a doe come in at 10 yards to eat and good off,
nice 6 pointer came in to not long after and they spooked each other. Well he came back out about 10 minutes later. I cracked off the Hawkens at him at 35 yards. Hit perfect left/right but a few inches low of the boiler room.
Blood trail wasn't great cause of my shot, and seems half the leaves on the ground had red spots on them
and it wasnt from the deer. Stuck the trail he made turning over leaves and found him a short distance away. Just laying on the ground like he was sleeping.
The spot I hunt at is maybe a mile or less the way the crow flies from my house. Wife was outside with the dog and heard the shot, said she heard the sound of thunder and waited for her phone to go off. Buddy who lives next to the property heard it, and offered a hand in dragging. Was nice of him as most of it is uphill.
Good morning, got skunked last weekend and didn't even see a squirrel.
Forgot to snap a picture of the entry and exit hole, but the shockwave did its job. Wound channel was certainly nasty and leathal.
