planning stages of my next project
#1
since my 54cal hawken is about done. just needing an rear site.
my next project is an stock for my win apex. already put fillers out about having someone make one for me. some no's rest where 300+ to do it.
since I picked up an stock blank for $27 and will be in on the 18th.
planning stage
take an 1x6 or and 2x6 board and cut an template of the over all stock design I want.
take an another piece of wood and learn to cut the barrel channel and action in lays.
(jess' idea) learn to carve (think she wants me to take up an second hobby to pay for the first)
est. 6 months to an year to complete the stock.
going to take my time.

Corey, I'm not familiar with your specific rifle, but if it's an inline with a straight barrel end to end, it may be possible to cut the chanel using a router table and core-box bit. If that is not feasable, it may be possible to do it on a table saw by making a series of saw cuts staying just inside the profile marked on one end of the blank. That leaves you with only about 15% of the wood still to be removed in a nice straight groove.
If I've totally missed the mark on my assumptions, then you're back to square one. Well, not really. As a custom furniture builder, what I see as easily done can be insurmountable for someone else. If you would like, you can leave a direct link (I think you can do that here) to me and I'll advise you through the rough spots.
With my Hawkin thumbhole, it took 5 different settings with 3 different bits on the router table to do the stopped barrel channel that was offset from the center of the blank.

that is why I choose that for my first from scratch stock project. figured it be easier to start with and even them my knight. my knight I would have to do an trigger guard.
